SMH RECORDS HAS RAISED $30 MILLION IN CAPITAL.
Jonathan Hay Publicity and Rogue Entertainment have partnered to start the new record label SMH Records out of Charlotte, North Carolina with a reported capital raise of $30 million.
“The objective of this record label is to do what the major labels rarely do these days — to find and develop new artists. We will devote significant resources to developing our artists and introducing them to a mass market,” says Jonathan Hay, who is well-known for being the person who helped make Rihanna famous. In addition to his talent at publicity, Hay also has produced numerous artists and has an eye for spotting talent, seeing the possibilities and making them a reality.
Michael A. Smith, co-owner of Rogue Entertainment, recently had a breakout internet hit co-producing on These Walls Revisited, a song by Kanye West and Nappy Roots. This single has been downloaded over 6 million times since June all throughout the major media websites and blogs. Read Full Press Release

New York, NY (November 2013) – Last month, SMH Records based out of Charlotte, North Carolina, made headlines when they announced the $30 million in capital they raised. Now, the record label’s value has risen to an all-time high with the recent signing of international socialite, Abimbola “Bim” Fernandez, daughter of Nigerian billionaire Ambassador Deinde Fernandez, one of the wealthiest people in the world. Bim is a 24-year-old recording artist that has recorded with dance pop band, Corbra Starship, and she will make her debut on the label’s upcoming compilation album, slated to be released in February of 2014.
“I’m very excited to have signed with SMH Records,” Bim revealed in a recent interview. “SMH Records tailored the deal to my needs so I will be able to accomplish all my dreams. I have a great team behind me who truly understand my vision.”
A real-life Nigerian princess who was born just outside of Paris, Bim was thrust into a world of luxury and nobility. She has a multitude of world dignitaries whom she considers extended family, including Nelson Mandela and President and Mrs. Dos Santos. Not typical for an artist, who as a young girl, was drawn to the punk scene, frequenting Warped Tour, worshipping the talents of Courtney Love, learning to play guitar at 13-years-old and joining a band. She was eventually asked to record with Cobra Starship on their Hot Mess album, singing on the song “Nice Guys Finish Last”. She also stars on the album cover.
SMH Records’ Co-Founder, Jonathan Hay says, “Bim envisions her debut album to be a cross between Katy Perry and Rihanna with pop-driven guitar, that she will of course be playing, and a touch of soul.”
Besides her singing career, Bim is also gearing up for a new reality show that will depict her rise to fame. The show is appropriately titled “Gold Blooded” and will follow the billionairess in her journey to becoming a household name. And while some of the footage is sure to capture her jetting across Europe in one of her family’s private planes or on the family yacht (which was once considered to appear in a James Bond movie), don’t expect her lavish surroundings to speak for who she is. The show will document her highs and lows and everything in between, and will provide a fun and exciting peek into the world of record labels, the music industry and the development of an artist from beginning to the end. The show will also likely host a few surprise appearances from some of Bim’s famous friends.
Produced by SMH Records, “Gold Blooded” will be shot in several countries around the world, as well as in New York, Charlotte, and multiple other locations coinciding with a North American tour promoting the label’s debut compilation album where Bim will make her first official appearance. Several television networks are rumored to be bidding over the option to air the reality show.
SMH Records is a Charlotte, NC based record label focused on developing and promoting new recording artists. SMH Records has raised $30 million and put together a world class staff to effectively accomplish its goal to bring the best new talent to the forefront of music.
“Years ago, people counted Robert Downey Jr. out due to situations in his personal life and because of the way he was portrayed in the media. He has since proved everyone wrong, and has gone on to experience a phenomenal amount of success, winning the heart of America through his honest approach. Despite his past, he managed to turn it all around. And he soared.
We believe that Lindsay Lohan is an immensely talented individual. Much like Robert Downey Jr., we believe her talent has superseded itself over the past several years — not despite the many obstacles she has faced, but because of them. Life has a way of deepening the meaning behind our art, and music has a way of reaching down into our soul and pulling it out. That passion, that fire within us, is developed only through hardship and heartbreak and is the most beautiful and precious thing we can offer to the world. It speaks right to the heart of another person, perhaps on the other side of the globe, bypassing all of the outer facades — the smoke and mirrors that we build around our hearts to guard ourselves from a sometimes cold and cruel world.
Rich or poor, famous or unknown, a heart is simply a heart — it breaks, softens and listens all the same. Music has no bias.
Music provides a release, a safe haven where we can be vulnerable and authoritative all at the same time, where we can turn our struggles into song and our lessons into lyrics.
We want to help Lindsay tap into that. We want to assist her and give her any of the tools that she may need along the way to reach that place within herself that holds a powerful message.
We believe Lindsay Lohan has much more to share with the world through various branches of creativity, but we are especially eager to hear her expression through music. We think she holds a treasure chest of dynamic songs that the world does not expect. We want to see her succeed in every way possible. We will do whatever it takes to sign her to our record company.”
After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.
